It’s a beautiful day in the forest of Wake, as Coach Skip Prosser was fond of saying. Check out these beautiful orange trees at the bottom of this screen grab from the Quad Cam:
If you have not already bookmarked the Quad Cam, you may want to do so for two reasons: 1) Hit the Bricks is this Thursday, and you might be able to catch some of the fun of that day, and 2) over the next month, our leaves will be changing into their full fall glory, and it is a sight to behold.
Let’s get to the news I have for you today, shall we?
Fall Break dining hours of operation
Fall Break is October 12-15; there are no Thursday or Friday classes. Campus will remain open, but some campus operations will shift their hours given that some of our students will go home or to friends’ homes.
One of the areas that shifts operation typically is dining. They have released their Fall Break Dining Hours of Operation so that students who are staying on campus can plan ahead.
Closer to Fall Break, I will likely have more info, but wanted to share this now since I had it.
Queer History Month kickoff Weds.
October is Queer History Month, and our LGBTQ+ Center is holding a kickoff party tomorrow afternoon; see pic below for details (click to enlarge).
We need families’ help in urging students to check that their cell phone number is on file for emergencies
While normally we try to let students be responsible for their own activities, there are times when a parental/familial bump is helpful – and I’d love your assistance, Deac families.
We require all undergraduate students to provide a cell phone so that they can get text messages in an emergency. Some of our students still have not done that. So we’d love your help in stressing to your students that this is something we need them to check ASAP and if their phone # is not listed, to provide it. Instructions for students are below. Thanks in advance!
- Students must click on this link.
- If your student sees a “Pending” message, click on “Cell Phone Review” and “Emergency Contact Review” to update their information.
- If they see a “Completed” message, information has been entered. However, they should still click on “Cell Phone Review” and “Emergency Contact Review” to review and update their information.
- For help, students can contact the Information Systems Service Desk at help@wfu.edu or by phone at 336.758.4357.
We don’t want any students to miss an emergency text because they have not provided their cell number, so please stress the importance of this with your Deacs.
Panhellenic (aka sorority) recruitment application is live
Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment Registration went live Sunday October 1st at 10 am. Students should register using their Wake Forest email address. The registration link can be found here.
Accounting for the Future program at the Business School
My friends at the Business School sent me an email with info about a program that may be of interest:
“Wake Forest University’s School of Business is partnering with Deloitte and hosting our 3rd Accounting for the Future event this November 3-5. We invite all undergraduate students, first-year through seniors, to learn more about careers in business and specifically how the Wake Forest MS in Accountancy program can prepare them to succeed in a wide range of accountancy professions.
Participants have the opportunity to meet faculty members, students, and alumni from the School of Business as well as members of the Deloitte team. The School of Business is strongly committed to supporting the University’s mission of creating a learning environment that fosters equity and inclusion. Participants’ expenses, travel costs, accommodations, and meals are covered by Wake Forest.
Qualified AFTF participants who apply and are admitted to our MSA program are eligible for a minimum $15,000 per year scholarship. Please be aware, we can only admit a limited number of attendees. Applying early is highly recommended.”
There is a video highlighting the MSA student experience, which you can share with your students, and the application is available here for those who may be interested.
