It’s been a jam-packed meeting/project day for me, so we’ll get right to the news.

Today is Deacs Day of Giving – your gift could help us get a $1 million match!

I hope the Daily Deacdom has seen that today is Deacs Day of Giving, where you can help support the areas of Wake Forest you love the most. I heard from a well-placed source that we can earn a $1 million challenge match if we get to 3,500 donors by the end of the day (11:59 p.m. I believe is the cutoff).

As of 4:45 p.m., I was told we were at 1,906 gifts. I would love, love, love it if we can show everyone the power of our parents and families and have a big push in gifts coming in right after the Daily Deac goes out 🙂 So if you feel moved, please join in and make a gift to help us get that $1MM match.

I’m also told that we are very close to unlocking a handful of challenge gifts, so if you feel inclined to donate to one of the following areas, you can help us unlock $25K for these: College (needs 25 more gifts as of 4:45 p.m.), Beautiful Campus (needs 31 gifts), Career Readiness (needs 36 gifts), and Student Experience (needs 40 gifts).

Thank you for your consideration! Let’s get that $1MM match! We thank you for gifts of any size and to any designation!

Family Weekend football game time announced: 6:30 p.m.

For everyone getting ready for Family Weekend, the football game kickoff time was announced yesterday, and our kickoff on September 23 will be at 6:30 p.m.

Reminder about local recommendations

Speaking of Family Weekend, as you are thinking about things you might like to do in town, be sure to lean on the wisdom of been-there-done-that families, who shared some of their local favorites for dining and other attractions.

Project Pumpkin interest meeting

Project Pumpkin is one of our signature fall events, where students put on a Halloween carnival for local children. It’s a terrific way for our students to show their Pro Humanitate spirit, and I think many of our students really love this event because it gives them a chance to have fun and dress in costume, and helps those students who are missing younger siblings or cousins they used to see regularly.

Encourage your Deac to go to the Project Pumpkin interest meeting on Thurs. Sept. 21 from 5-6 p.m. in Pugh Auditorium. They’ll learn about Project Pumpkin and how they can get involved.

WFU in the News

Want to see brief highlights of recent University media coverage? Check out WFU in the News Sept. 4-10. I was particularly struck by the articles on video games and classical music (my ’27 Wolfpack is a dedicated gamer) and why we work 8-hour workdays, but there are other goodies in there as well.
