We’ve hit the midpoint of the school week, and hoping your Deacs will coast gently to Friday. Today is plenty hot and humid – a steamy 94 today – but if your students can persevere, it looks like we will have a cooler weekend, with highs around 78 or 79. There is some rain in the weekend forecast, but with all this heat, I bet folks won’t mind a break.
Here’s the news and noteworthy things to share today.
OPCD events next week: Diversity Always Matters and Fall Career Fair
Next week, students will have two big opportunities to connect with organizations seeking Wake Forest talent. On Wednesday, Sept. 13, the WFU Fall Career Fair will host 90+ organizations seeking to network with students to share information on their full-time and internship hiring needs. The evening before Tuesday, Sept. 12, our Diversity Always Matters will be held with organizations that value diversity in their workplace. This event will create space for students from various races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and disabilities to network. Both events are open to students of all class years and majors, for those who know exactly what career path interests them, and for students exploring industries and job functions.
P’27s and transfers – please take our Orientation survey
My colleagues who work with Orientation have asked me to remind all P’27s and new transfer families to please take our survey about Orientation. It is incredibly helpful to have a large pool of respondents, so we know we have the most reliable data (and not skewed in a way that doesn’t reflect our family constituency).
This should only take you a few minutes, and I can’t stress enough how helpful this is. We make tweaks to Orientation each year based on the feedback from families, so we want to hear what worked well and what might need to be reimagined to be more effective.
Thank you to those who already took the survey (you don’t need to take it again). But if you are a new family and have not taken it, as a favor to me, please do so if you can!
Residential communities’ health and safety inspections
Resident students received this message from the Office of Residence Life and Housing to alert residents to upcoming health and safety inspections that will be done in their community.
Health and Safety Inspections will take place between September 11-15. All spaces will be entered for inspections and will involve a visual overview of the room to ensure the absence of health and safety hazards/violations. Community staff will close and lock the doors as they finish inspecting rooms. Students must be sure to take their keys and student ID with them as they leave your rooms during inspection week! (And the mom in me can’t help but say they should always lock their doors anyway – not leave them unlocked when they leave!)
Student Involvement Fair photos
Since I have a COVID+ person in my house, I am limiting my in-person activity. However, I thought you might like to see some pics from yesterday’s Student Involvement Fair, courtesy of our expert photography team. Enjoy!
