Happy Monday, Deac families! Let’s make it a great week – and I want to start on a fun note.

Residence Life and Housing new student move-in moments

Our Office of Residence Life and Housing was incredibly busy during move-in week. They are also a really talented team, as evidenced by this wonderful website they made with move-in moments from our new students and their families:

“Nearly 1,400 new Deacs are settling into their new home at Wake Forest. We hope parents and families know that Wake Forest holds a special place for you, too! The start of school brings many emotions and changes to be processed in our families. As such, we hope this gallery of move-in moments will bring you a bit of joy, a bit of peace, and a lot of relief, knowing that your students are ready. And so are you. Welcome to The Forest.

In Partnership,
#TeamRLH”

I can’t say it any better than that! And I loved seeing so many of you in pictures!

Ask your students to mark their calendars for free, walk-up flu shot clinics

Encourage your Deac to keep themself and our campus healthy by getting their flu shot later this month and into October:

“Student Health Service is offering influenza vaccine clinics on campus for students, free of charge. Walk-up clinic dates, times and locations are as follows (no sign-up or registration is required):

  • September 29: 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Hearn Plaza
  • October 9: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – The Pit
  • October 17: 4 – 6 p.m. – Benson University Center
  • October 26: 5 – 7 p.m. – ZSR Library

Subject to availability of supplies. Appointments also available; students can email apptshs@wfu.edu.

Religious Holy Day accommodation process for students

Rosh Hashana begins this Friday at sunset. Our Associate Chaplain for Jewish Life, Gail Bretan, included a notice about Holy Day accommodations in her most recent enewsletter:

“Students interested in holy day accommodations for class and lab assignments, attendance, or athletic practice/competition should contact faculty or coaches well in advance with such requests. Students can utilize the Religious Holy Day Accommodation Email Template to reach out to faculty, staff, or coaches, etc.
https://chaplain.wfu.edu/news-events/holy-days/.”

Letters So Dear and Weekly Message for P’27s

Every Monday, our ’27 students are sent Letters So Dear, a publication that reminds of important dates, deadlines, and activities – as well as provides perspective about the first-year adjustment from an upperclass student. You can read this week’s here.

Also every Monday, we have a Weekly Message for First-Year Families that shares information about things your new Deac might be experiencing. Read this week’s message on The Frantic Phone Call/Text/FaceTime.

Climb to Remember

On the somber anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to share this post from the official Wake Forest Twitter account about our ROTC No Fear battalion’s annual Climb to Remember:

“We climbed in memory of those we lost, and in honor of those who answered the call. We will #NeverForget.

🇺🇸

#WFU’s ‘No Fear’ Battalion held its annual ‘Climb to Remember‘ in remembrance of the 2,977 victims of the September 11. Participants climb one stair for each life lost.”

Many thanks to all who participated in the climb. I had hoped to go myself, but having had to be in a car for two hours with a COVID+ son, I did not want to risk bringing germs to the climbers.

Our thoughts are with all whose lives were irrevocably changed on 9/11/01.
