It’s a rainy Thursday here in Winston, but at least it is a little cooler. We have several news items today for you:

Early Action plan announced for First Generation students

This morning, Wake Forest announced that we are launching an initiative to further lower barriers to undergraduate admission for first-generation college students. The University will offer an Early Action option specifically for first-generation students to provide an additional pathway of opportunity.

“Great universities like Wake Forest are called to be catalysts for good in society,” said President Susan R. Wente. “This means lowering barriers to accessing the extraordinary educational opportunities we offer here. This initiative is one such way to make the path to Wake Forest clearer for first-generation college students, who often do not take advantage of early admission programs to the same degree as students from college-educated families do.”

Wake Forest named in Town & Country’s list of ‘alternative Ivy League colleges’

One of my colleagues shared that Wake got a mention in Town & Country as an ‘alternative Ivy League college’). I don’t have a subscription to Town & Country, but some of you may, so I thought I’d draw your attention to it. My colleague shared this quote from the article:

“For what it’s worth, in 1996 Wake Forest became the only college to ever advance from the U.S. News Regional University rankings to the Top 30 of the National Universities list. Students here benefit from the close knit community and low student-to-faculty ratio typical of liberal arts colleges, with the resources and facilities of a large research institution. And they have 45 majors and 60 minors to choose from, with business offerings like accounting and finance being particularly popular. Greek life is a longstanding tradition, as is sports: the basketball team has made March Madness 23 times.”

It’s T-minus 12 days until we pack our car and get ready to move our ’27 Wolfpack in for band camp – and I’m not yet ready! Here’s to all our families, particularly first-timers like me, who are going through All The Feels right now :)
