Today is an absolutely glorious day! Early morning was about 68 degrees with a light breeze, around lunchtime it was up to about 77. The sun is out – FINALLY – and it feels like a beautiful late summer/early fall day. Feel free to check it out on the Quad Cam.

We are looking to have a great night tonight with our home football opener against Elon at Allegacy Stadium. If you’re planning to attend, be sure you read this Know Before You Go post from Athletics. GO DEACS!

Wake the Demons photostory

Last night was Wake the Demons, a pep rally to help usher in the first home football game and introduce the Class of 2027 to campus traditions, our Wake cheers and fight song and more. The event ended with fireworks (dogs in nearby homes took note, if they are anything like mine. LOL). See the photostory.

Deadline for refunds for Family Weekend is Sunday, September 3rd at 11:59 p.m.

My colleagues who run Family Weekend wanted me to remind the Daily Deacdom of the deadline to request a refund is coming up: it’s Sunday, September 3rd at 11:59 p.m.:

“We understand that plans can sometimes change, and we want to make sure you have all the information you need regarding refunds for Family Weekend. This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to request a refund for the weekend registration or any optional items you may have purchased (such as meal tickets, t-shirts, etc.) is fast approaching.

Please note the refund deadline: Sunday, September 3rd at 11:59 p.m. Of course we hope everyone attends, but if something has happened and you no longer can, please request your refund asap. Read more.

Framing Our Future – the University’s strategic framework

This morning, a message was sent to the campus community from President Wente and Provost Gillespie about the strategic framework for Wake Forest:

“We are pleased to present ‘Framing Our Future,’ a strategic framework for Wake Forest University. The Framework and complementary content available at framework.wfu.edu are products of a year-long process that engaged the entire University community in affirming Wake Forest’s distinctive identity and articulating a vision for who we will become.”

Exciting things to come as we prepare for Wake Forest’s future!

Important mold and mildew prevention info

Each fall, the Office of Residence Life and housing shares a message about mold and mildew prevention in our residential communities. Every student has a part to play in mold and mildew prevention, and we hope they will follow the guidelines in the message.

What is College For? Program for Leadership and Character discussion groups

At the start of each fall semester, students – particularly our new students – are looking for things to get involved in so that they meet their peers and find meaningful connections and involvement. For the introverts among us (and I am one!), sometimes joining a new thing can be hard. But if you are joining something that is a smallish group, centered around a topic you care about, that might be easier.

This is why I am so excited that my colleagues from The Program for Leadership and Character asked me to share information about their fall discussion group on the topic of “What is College For?”:

“During the first half of the fall semester, The Program for Leadership and Character invites students into personal reflection on issues of leadership, character, and the good life. In short, we want to provide a place where you can ask the big questions.

Starting next month, we’re holding a discussion group called “What is College For?” In it, we’ll consider the nature of the good life and how we can live such lives in college and beyond. All are welcome to join us as we consider topics such as friendship, failure, and gratitude.”

Students can learn more and sign up here. This is a terrific opportunity for students of all years and temperaments to come together for stimulating discussion and the chance to get engaged with one of our signature programs on campus, The Program for Leadership and Character. If this sounds like something your Deac would like, please share it.
