Yesterday afternoon I was walking across campus around 4 pm and it was absolutely stunning: warm (low 70s), sunny, and it seemed like every green space on campus was full of happy students. Tons of our Deacs were enjoying the Adirondack chairs on the Mag Quad (aka Manchester Plaza), others were under the tents in groups of two to six. Expressions on students faces seemed to me to be of the ‘easy breezy’ variety and not the ‘stressed out’ variety. Good weather does that to you, particularly when the last couple of weekends have been rainy and cold. Which brings me to…

For P’27 families coming to Campus Day this Friday

If you are a new family and are coming to Campus Day this Friday, keep an eye on the weather. Right now the forecast looks rainy 🙁 but I am hoping maybe we’ll see a turn for the better. Make sure you stay apprised of the forecast and bring appropriate rain gear/umbrellas if it looks like we’ll get rain.

Wake Debate wins the Triple Crown!

I woke up to this good news from the Wake Debate Twitter:

“History Has Been Made! Wake Debate wins the Triple Crown with a close out of the 2023 Cross Examination Debate Association National Championship! This is the first time in history that a debate program has won all 3 national championships in the same season!!”

Congratulations to our Debate team, staff, and coaches for this history-making series of wins! Go Deacs!

Iron Chef Ming Tsai coming to campus April 17

Chef Ming Tsai will be on campus on April 17th from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Pit. We will be featuring his product, Mings Bings, on our International Grill Station in the Pit. Chef Ming Tsai is an Iron Chef, James Beard & Emmy Award-Winner, Chef/Partner at BaBa at Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, and a Chairman of the National Advisory Board for Family Reach. He is the author of five cookbooks, host, and executive producer of PBS-TV’s Simply Ming. Most recently, Chef Ming founded MingsBings, a consumer-packaged goods startup for healthy, plant-based, convenient food.

I am told from my sources in Campus Dining that we serve Mings Bings on the vegan station in The Pit and we also have them for sale in the freezer section of our campus convenience stores.

Jazz Ensemble April 18

The Wake Forest University Department of Music invites you to our Spring 2023 Jazz Ensemble concert. This event will take place on Tuesday, April 18th at 7:30 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center. It is free and all are welcome. I have a well-placed source who told me the Jazz Ensemble’s fall concert was incredible and so this promises to be fantastic too. Additionally, I am told that this is the last concert for Dr. Kevin Bowen, who has capably led our bands for so many years, before his retirement. For all the times our bands have played the fight song during a big game, or welcomed new students on Campus Day, or played the alma mater, etc., Dr. Bowen has been at the center of it – so we thank him for all the ways the music he’s helped create has enriched our sense of school spirit!

Summer School housing information and Move-Out information

The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent an email to students about summer school housing options. Read it here. They also sent a message about Move-Out, including dates by which students must be out of the residence halls; read it here.
