  • Today I am offering a few musings on the weather, the mood on campus, and a couple of motivational thoughts

Weather

This is the most accurate portrayal of this week’s weather:

The weather went from 70 to 30 like it saw a state trooper

It’s not 30 degrees – more like 50 – but it was 70+ degrees yesterday, so today is a noticeable dip in the temperature. I saw some unfortunate students in shorts and short-sleeved t-shirts this morning and they either didn’t check their weather app before leaving their residence halls, or they just run hot and don’t mind the chill. We’re also zig zagging between overcast and sunny. It’s like Mother Nature can’t make up her mind – hot or cold? Sunny or grey? This is spring in NC, friends.

Mood on Campus

As I went about my business in the ZSR today, I went through Camino Bakery. It was busy, but not crazy. And our students looked thoughtful and purposeful, but not absurdly stressed. They also haven’t reached the kind of super-casual go-to-ZSR-in-PJs that you sometimes see during Finals Week.

It feels like there are two competing moods: 1) gotta grind the rest of this week out/take my midterms/write that paper, and 2) I am VERY excited about the break!!!! Unfortunately they can’t get to #2 until they finish #1. Which brings me to…

Motivational Thoughts

In stressful times, sometimes it helps me to focus on something motivational to get me over whatever hump is ahead of me. This first is one of my all-time favorites:

You're gonna be happy, said Life. But first, I will make you strong.

I saw this one earlier today and liked both the cheerful colors and the message.

you're gonna figure it all out - and it's going to be so worth it despite it all

This one is for families of English majors. It’s Ernest Hemingway.

The world breaks everyne and afterward some are strong at the broken places

And this one is just plain fun.

whatever you're doing today, do it with the confidence of a y4 year old in a batman t-shirt

If your Deac needs a lift during midterms, feel free to share one of these images with them 🙂
