Letters So Dear for ’26s
Some impressions from campus this morning via Five Words
I spent some time on the north side of campus late this morning walking from one meeting to another. Having a little extra time on my side gave me a chance to people watch, and while it wasn’t enough time for a full Five Senses post, I did think of an abbreviated post I could do based on five words.
Here are the five words that seemed most representative of my time observing campus:
Grey – today was an overcast day. Not only were the skies grey, but our students seemed to be wearing a lot of grey hoodies, grey sweatpants, grey jackets, or even having grey backpacks/messenger bags. Definitely a day for muted colors.
Hoodie – although it was supposed to get into the low 60s today, it still felt cool. Many of the students I passed were wearing hoodies this morning, or lightweight jackets. But a lot of hoodies for sure.
Coffee – it was hard to find a student that wasn’t carrying a coffee, or had one at their table – some had hot coffees, some iced. A lot of our students had water bottles too.
Cool – It was a cooler day than expected, but our students just looked cool too. Students have their individual vibes in terms of how they dress, how they express themselves, and that is in everything from the clothes they choose to the stickers on their laptops, or the words they use as they talk to their friends. They just seemed cool.
Steady – Some of the words that came to mind were ‘purposeful, not panicked.’ Midterms are coming and everyone is itching for Spring Break to get here, but the students I saw seemed calm and steady.
Those are my Five Words impressions of campus from late morning today.
Reminder of Housing Selection Information Sessions
At the end of last week. the Office of Residence Life and Housing sent this message to students about upcoming information sessions about housing selection. We especially encourage first-year students to attend, though students of any year can attend any session. A reminder message was sent out Monday about the sessions, including one tonight at 5 pm in the Wellbeing Living Room.
Letters So Dear for ’26s
’26 students got their weekly issue of Letters So Dear on Monday. One of its key focuses is procrastination, which can be a pitfall for many a wonderful student. This letter has some great advice about making adjustments in how you do things so that you can be more effective.
