- How your students can find out about events
It was 67 degrees when I opened the door to let my dogs outside, and for one who hates cold weather, it was the greatest feeling ever. Your Deacs are reveling in what is arguably the best weather day we’ve had on campus all spring. It will get close to 80 degrees. This kind of warmth means shorts, and sundresses, and light weight clothing, and lots of people eating or studying outside, because it is just too nice to be indoors. For students in parts of the country that would normally be cold and snowy (and I know there is a giant storm hitting a lot of states even as we speak), it’s days like this that affirmed why they picked Wake 🙂
TEDxWakeForestU – Feb. 25
Remind your Deacs to attend TEDxWakeForestU on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Wait Chapel! Click on the link to learn more about our speakers and claim your free ticket: http://tedxwakeforestu.squarespace.com/. This event is free and speakers include an astronaut, a crime survivor, a man who was wrongfully convicted and put on death row, doctors from Switzerland and London, local artists, and environmental activists.
Islam Awareness Week – Feb. 27-March 3
Join the Muslim Students Association for a week of learning about Islam and about the Muslim student experience at Wake Forest! On Wednesday, March 1 at 5:30pm we’re welcoming guest speaker, Abdur-Rahman Muhammad. On Thursday at 5:00pm a panel of students and alumni will speak about their experiences as Muslim women. (Click the calendar to enlarge.)
Women’s History Month events
I got an email from our wonderful Women’s Center about the events they are planning for Women’s History Month. March is filled with programs sponsored by incredible campus partners. You can see more on their calendar. One of the items that might be especially fun for your students is a karaoke night on March 1st:
“Do you love Beyonce? Taylor Swift? Whitney Houston? Selena? Come sing the best of the ballads or belt out a top 40 hit. Join Student Union in our Women’s History Month Karaoke Night as sing songs from our favorite female performers. Be sure to bring a friend and hit the stage!”
Health and Safety Inspections of our residential communities
The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent this message about upcoming health and safety inspections in our residential communities.
The Quad Cam is back up again
For those of you who like to take a peek at the Quad Cam to get a sense of what campus is like, you might have noticed we were down for a couple of days. The tech issues that caused the outage are now fixed, so you can enjoy it once again.

How your students can find out about events
While I try to highlight a few of the upcoming events on campus in the Daily Deac each week, there are far too many to share here. We have a campus platform called The Link where student events are posted, and those feed to the Corq app. And new events get added all the time. So your Deacs can and should check Corq (or the Link) regularly to see about activities and events of interest to them.
It’s almost the end of the week – let’s finish strong!
