- P’26s: encourage your ’26 students to complete the Pulse Survey
Several items of news to report today. As I often do, I want to start today by drawing your attention to our weather. This week we are supposed to hit a high of 82 on Thursday, and then a high of 49 on Saturday (click to enlarge).
Which reminds me of another of my favorite NC weather memes:
Springtime in NC is wild, y’all. We’ve got tulips and daffodils starting to pop up a little too early, and it zig zags between hot and cold. Students would be well advised to layer their clothing and check their weather app before leaving their residence in the morning so they know how to dress.
Volunteer opportunities in the Campus Garden
Now that the weather is heating up (we are predicted to reach a high of 82 this Thursday!), gardeners are beginning to turn their attention to spring planting and prep for the growing season. We have a wonderful Campus Garden, and there are opportunities for your students to get involved:
- Students can apply to join a Connect & Cultivate team. If you want to garden at least once a week and get to know some new friends, follow the link for more information about our Connect & Cultivate program. The deadline is this Wednesday, February 22nd.
- Sunday Volunteer Hours will start on March 12th. Students can visit GivePulse to see all of our garden volunteer opportunities.
Gardening became my pandemic sanity-saver. I was 100% a novice, and even I managed to make some beautiful garden beds at my house. If your Deac is looking for a way to get out in nature and be among some other people for an activity that is both calming yet vigorous, rewarding yet requiring patience, consider the Campus Garden.
NPHC expansion info session, Feb. 25
My colleagues in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life shared this information about an upcoming meeting about NPHC (National Panhellenic Council) expansion:
“Are you looking to start something new? Do you have an interest in joining a Fraternity or Sorority? If so, join the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life for presentations from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Both organizations will provide a brief overview of the organizations and present a plan for involvement with Wake Forest University. Presentations will start at 1 p.m. in Carswell Hall- Auditorium. If you have questions please email Brittany Harris-Nelson Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life at harrisnb@wfu.edu.”
P’26s: encourage your ’26 students to complete the Pulse Survey
First-year students are a vital part of our campus community, and we want to make sure we are creating a supportive environment that they can call home. To do this effectively, we want to hear directly from students. First-year students were emailed a brief, 10-question survey on Tuesday, Feb. 14, designed to provide insights into their residential experience this year. The data from this survey will help us understand first-year students’ sense of belonging and how we can continue to cultivate a caring residential community. P’26s, please remind your ’26 Deacs to check their WFU email and take the survey, which will be open until Thursday, Feb. 23.
I can’t stress this enough: surveys are great, but you have to have enough respondents for the results to be broadly representative of your population. So the more ’26 students who take it, the more accurate the findings will be. Thank you in advance for helping bump your Deacs along if they haven’t taken it yet.
Hoping that wherever you are, you and yours are having a good week! And if your Deac is coming home for Spring Break, start making their favorite treats and plan for their favorite meals. They would not mind at all if you spoil them a bit while they are home 🙂
