Secrest Artists Series with pianist Emanuel Ax
The next Secrest Artists Series concert is coming up on Thursday, January 19th and will be in Wait Chapel. It features pianist Emanuel Ax. I was told this by a reliable source with Secrest: “Emanuel Ax is truly one of the top classical musicians in the world: on par with Yo Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and other big names in the classical music industry.” Your Deacs get to attend the Secrest Artists Series productions for free with their WFU ID, and should reserve their ticket. They can read more about Emanuel Ax here.
Free Wellbeing Coaching
The Office of Wellbeing is now enrolling for their Wellbeing Coaching program, which is free for students! Clients will work one-on-one with a certified coach to identify their individual health and wellbeing goals, and then co-create a plan to achieve those goals and make them stick. Sessions are bi-weekly for the semester, or on a drop-in basis, and a variety of times are available. Goals can vary widely and can include anything from increasing sleep or managing stress, to developing a mindfulness practice or pursuing financial goals. Your students can find out more and register at go.wfu.edu/wellbeingcoaching.
Leadership and Character student discussion groups
The Program for Leadership and Character invites students into personal reflection on issues of leadership, character, and the good life. In short, we want to provide a place where you can ask the big questions. Beginning in the week of January 23, we will be hosting discussion groups on the topic “Who Are We and Why Are We Here?” In it, we’ll considers the nature of the good life and how we can live such lives in college and beyond. All are welcome to join us as we focus on issues of purpose, service, rest and leadership.
Discussion groups will meet once per week for one hour each time over the course of the next four weeks (namely the weeks of January 23, January 30, February 6, and February 13). Students can sign up here.
Fast Friends event to meet new people
Is your student looking to meet people but may be struggling or doesn’t know where to start? Encourage them to attend Fast Friends from The Wake Forest Counseling Center on Friday Jan. 20 from 2-4 p.m. in The Autumn Room of Reynolda Hall. Students can join in making new friendships and connections in the new year, and there will be snacks and various activities including speed friending, bingo with prizes, and collaborative painting. All students are welcome to attend! Students should see the Counseling Center’s Instagram (@wfucounselingcenter) for more information about this event.
Where to find events and activities
If your Deac is looking to find events and activities to attend, their first place to look should be either The Link (web based) or the Corq app (which is fed events directly from The Link. Because student organizations are constantly adding events and activities, students will want to check out The Link or Corq regularly to see what’s new.
While The Link and Corq are the primary locations for activities created by student organizations, we also have an Events calendar that lists all kinds of other events (academic, athletic, spiritual, etc.) and also pulls items from The Link. If your Deac is not already familiar with these event tools, encourage them to check them out and find a few great events to attend in the coming days and weeks.
