Today is the second to last day of classes in the fall semester. On Sunday evening at 7 pm, we will be hosting the Lovefeast, which is a candlelight holiday service (broadly ecumenical) that was always one of my favorite nights of the year. It always put me in the spirit of the holidays and helped me take my mind off finals. Hopefully many of your Deacs will attend. And happily for families, you can livestream the Lovefeast if you wish.

One bit of news to share today: in our WFU Should Know weekly student e-newsletter, there is an item I want to draw your attention to. Our Campus Health Committee shared a message on how to stay healthy during the winter break, and what students should do before they return to campus. You can read the full message here, but some key takeaways are: wear a well-fitting mask on public transportation (e.g., planes), avoid being around people who are actively ill, be cautious about large gatherings/consider masking, get a flu and COVID vaccine if you hadn’t already done so. In terms of the return to campus, they recommend everyone take a COVID test 72 hours before returning to campus, and not staying home if you test positive (or have the flu, RSV, stomach bug, etc.). They also recommend avoiding large gatherings for the first 2 weeks back on campus, since that is when we tend to have illness surges.

Many thanks to all the families who have completed the parent and family communications survey we sent you via email on Tuesday. If you have not completed it and are able to, we would appreciate your feedback. I’m already trying to digest some of the suggestions you have and think about how we might improve going forward.
