Your Deacs are back from Thanksgiving and grinding their way through the last week of classes (Friday is LDOC – Last Day of Classes, final exams begin on Monday, Dec. 5). Here’s some of the news items that have crossed my inbox over the last few days.

The LL Bean bootmobile and pop-up shop is on campus today and tomorrow (Tuesday & Wednesday, Nov. 29 & 30). They will be on Poteat Field from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. If your Deac needs some holiday shopping ideas, this is a great option – as is our Artisan’s Fair, which takes place this Friday in the Benson Center room 401 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The Artisan’s Fair shows off the craft skills of our faculty and staff. Always a ton of unique things there, as you can see on their Instagram.

Other festive events: Chanukah on the [Lower] Quad is tonight at 5 p.m., and the Lighting of the Quad is tonight at 7 p.m. on the main Quad. Both will be great fun.

Second only to Pitsgiving is Late Night Breakfast, which will be held tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 30th from 10 p.m. to midnight). Your Deacs should come to the Pit to take a study break and eat a wonderful late night meal of bacon, eggs, French toast and other breakfast fare (plus more bacon!) as they prepare for finals.

Another key end-of-semester event is Wake the Library, which starts Dec. 3. Your Deacs can come to the ZSR Library for special giveaways, a snack station, build your own exam care kits, a hot beverage station and more. ZSR always supports our students so well during finals!

In other news, this morning, I sent a message to all P’23-’26 families with a link to a family communications survey (check your spam/junk/quarantine if it missed your inbox). It would mean a lot to me personally and professionally to have a high response rate on this survey, so I would humbly ask you to fill out the survey if you can. We really do want your feedback on how we are doing on family communications – which publications/information sources you use (and which you don’t), what you want to see more (or less) of, etc. Your feedback will help us improve our work going forward. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

For those of you who like to keep abreast of where Wake Forest stories appear in the media, I bring you WFU in the News (Nov. 14-20).

The Office of Residence Life and Housing sent resident students this message about steps they need to take before departing for Winter Break. Key points:

  • 24-Hour quiet hours begin at 5 p.m. on Dec. 2 and continue through the end of the day on Dec. 10.
  • All students must depart for Winter Break by 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 (Deacon OneCard access is cut off at 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 and will begin again at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7).
  • Students must pack all belongings they’ll need access to over the break (as University personnel will not be available to give them access to their room over the break). Students must be sure to clean before they go, per the message.

A reminder to all families that spring tuition is due Dec. 1. Please be sure your students have added you/anyone they want to have access to their account as an Authorized Payer in DEAC.

For our P’26’s, note that Letters So Dear went out to your Deacs on Monday, and we posted a new Weekly Message for First-Year Families on Monday as well. This week’s message is titled As Finals Approach.

The semester is nearly at an end. How did that happen??? Finish strong, Deacs!
