For the past several years, the Wake Forest ROTC has hosted the 9/11 Climb to Remember, an event in remembrance of September 11, 2001. Our No Fear! Battalion invites the Winston-Salem community and others to come out to Truist Field at 6 am tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 10) and join in climbing 2,997 steps, which represents the lives of families, friends and loved ones that were lost during the tragic events of 9/11. In addition to our No Fear! Battalion, student-athletes, students from Winston-Salem State, and local police, fire, and first responders have also joined in the Climb to Remember, as you can see in some of the photos below.

One of the wonderful – and free for students! – offerings we have at Wake Forest is the Secrest Artists Series, which brings distinguished performing artists of national and international reputation to our campus. The slate of performances for this academic year have been announced:

  • Third Coast Percussion – Sept. 22; Brendle Recital Hall
  • Mingus Big Band – Oct. 20; Wait Chapel
  • Stewart Goodyear (piano) – Nov. 15;  Brendle Recital Hall
  • Emanuel Ax (piano) – Jan. 19; Wait Chapel
  • A Far Cry – March 2; Wait Chapel
  • Rachel Podger (violin) – March 29 and 31; Brendle Recital Hall

All events begin at 7:30 p.m. Each event is usually accompanied by a pre-concert talk and/or a residency activity by the artist. Visit the Secrest Artists Series website for details and updates, or if you want to purchase tickets to any of the events yourself.

One of the things that gives me a chuckle every fall is the Marist Mindset List. This list describes things that this year’s entering first-year students have always known (for example: “The Class of 2026 has always known LeBron James as the most recognizable sports icon on the planet.”). They have changed up the format a little bit to try and share facts that might be related to certain academic departments or majors. But you may enjoy it.

It’s overcast today but the temps are great – 75 degrees as I write this. The weekend forecast looks dubious, with a lot of rain, but at least it isn’t going to be too hot. Weather Channel 5 day forecast 9/9/22 (lots of rain over the weekend)
