Today is the day! It’s New Student Move-In, and I could not be more excited. The two happiest days in a college’s year are always move-in and Commencement. They feel different – one is a beginning, the other an ending – but they share the same sense of joy. Demon Deacon celebrates in Wait Chapel

Because I (like most of my colleagues) will be going nonstop from event to event these next few days, this is a pre-post 🙂

At the start of the school year, I like to remind families of a couple things that can have a financial impact:

  • We have an elective tuition insurance plan through A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. that will help minimize financial loss if a student suffers a serious illness or accident and must withdraw before the end of a semester. Please see the Tuition Insurance page of our website for more information on how the Dewar Tuition Insurance assures up to a 75% tuition refund throughout the term. The last day to apply for this plan is August 21, 2022.
  • All students must choose to stay enrolled in or waive the Student Blue Insurance (health insurance premium) before August 31st. Please go to the Student Insurance website for additional information. (If you take no action to waive coverage, you will be billed for our insurance, even if your student is covered under your plan).

In terms of family Orientation program updates: our Flourish in the Forest program, which takes place tonight in Wait Chapel at 7:30 pm with President Wente and senior leaders, will be recorded. I hope to have the recording by Thursday afternoon or Friday morning, and will post it here once it is ready. Note that if you did not RSVP to attend that, you can still show up onsite, as Wait Chapel will have plenty of seating.

For the What to Know Before You Go program at 10:30 am on Thursday 8/18:

If you had RSVPd to view it on campus:

  • We sent you an email on Tuesday afternoon (8/16) with your viewing location and a campus map.
  • Because we have limited spaces in each viewing location, we kindly ask that you view the program at the location to which you were assigned, so that we ensure we have seats available for all guests at each assigned location.

If you will not be on campus, did not RSVP to attend (or if you did not receive a confirmation email), and/or you want to view it from your hotel, the Quad, one of the tents on campus, etc.

New families – you got this! Happy Move-In!!
