It’s a short week due to the holiday, so we will get right to business.

On July 1, Michele Gillespie began her new role as University Provost, and Annette Ranft became Dean of the School of Business. We welcome them to these new roles and look forward to their leadership. Read more.

For our P’26s, your Weekly Update went out this morning. You can read it here.

Our incoming ’26 students also got a message today; read it here.

Both of these messages reference new student course registration, which is tomorrow.

I know that course registration can be an anxious time for incoming students. You can help your Deac keep perspective on the process by reassuring them that:

Things tend to work out, so try and trust the process.

Every class they sign up for – even if it was not their first choice – will help advance them towards the 120 hours they need to graduate.

There will be a drop/add process for incoming students after they meet with their assigned academic adviser on August 19, and typically there is a lot of shuffling of courses in the first week of classes.

The message students received reinforces these ideas: “As you will find, there are many factors that affect registration, including time conflicts between classes and course availability. This means you may not get your exact first-choice schedule. What you will get, however, is a schedule that fulfills academic requirements, that helps you begin important exploration of preferred academic paths, and that starts your WFU journey of obtaining a broad education in exploring the liberal arts. You chose Wake Forest knowing that the university values and requires broad liberal arts exploration, so please keep an open mind about the courses that are of value to you in this first semester.”

Finally for P’26s, in case you have not been steadily working through all the to-dos for your student’s start at Wake, please take a look at the New Students website: Parents and Families section. The main page is here:  and the key dates/action items page is here. All the particulars of onboarding are contained in this site.
