For those who have students here for Summer School, there have been intermittent emergency tests running in buildings this week: “tests of Wake Forest Indoor Emergency Alert Systems continue to be conducted today, May 25.  All testing will be conducted between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The tests are being conducted to ensure that the University’s indoor emergency notification systems are operating properly.”

This week’s issue of WFU in the News came out for May 17-22, and a couple of items caught my eye:

  • What is the future of standardized tests in college admissions and should the SAT and ACT be a part of the process? At Wake Forest, now test-optional for more than a decade, the University “learned … what research has continued to confirm: a standardized test score is not essential to understanding a student’s intellectual curiosity, academic preparation or prospects for success,” said Eric Maguire, WFU’s vice president for enrollment. Read more.
  • Winston-Salem gains more national recognition as a great place to retire: “Forbes described Winston-Salem as “the cultured city of 252,000 in the Piedmont area of North Carolina,” emphasizing having Salem College, UNC School of the Arts, Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University within its community.” Read more.

Winston-Salem may be a great place to retire, but it hasn’t been great to live in this week. It’s been raining on and off for days, with still more in the forecast. It’s also been relatively cool, temperature wise. Today’s high is only supposed to be 73, and only up to 77 on Saturday. If your Deacs are here for Summer School, at least the rain is expected to clear out for Memorial Day weekend.

For our P’26 families, an email was sent out this afternoon inviting you to sign up for one of two Virtual New Student Receptions for the Class of 2026. See details.
