Even though it is Spring Break, there are still plenty of things happening at Mother So Dear. Today I will catch you up on some of the news.

Today is International Women’s Day. If you are not already following our official Wake Forest University Facebook account, I encourage you to do so. All day, my great friends who work with social media have been sharing stories of Wake Forest women on our Facebook page. Check it out!

Current undergraduate students (who are not graduating in 2022) got a message about housing selection times being available. Current students can see information about the housing selection process on the Residence Life and Housing website; as a reminder for any P’26 incoming families in the Daily Deacdom, your Class of 2026 students do not select housing this spring, their process takes place this summer (more info to come).

Some big athletics news to report: our men’s basketball coach, Steve Forbes, has been named the ACC Coach of the Year (and has just been signed to a long-term contract extension), and two players were honored: fifth-year guard Alondes Williams was named ACC Player of the Year and he captured First Team All-ACC honors; junior forward Jake LaRavia was named to the All-ACC Second Team. Wishing our Deacs good luck as they play on Weds. the 9th at 2:30 pm.

Fun fact from the Wake Forest Sports Facebook page: “We are the first ACC school since 2004-05 to sweep the ACC Football & Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year honors. Coach Clawson & Coach Forbes are the 7th pairing ever in ACC history and the 2nd Wake Forest tandem (1959-60, Paul Amen & Bones McKinney) to do so.”

The ZSR Library has resources for students trying to stay up to date with the events taking place abroad: “When international events are changing rapidly, as they are with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it’s important to rely on trusted, verified news sources to keep up with what is going on. Mis- and disinformation spreads fastest in chaotic, uncertain environments, so you want to be sure you are learning about events strategically and not relying solely on social media for your information.” See their full post with information about trusted sources our Deacs have access to via the ZSR.

For those who like to stay in touch with where Wake Forest stories appear in the news, we have our WFU in the News for Feb. 28-March 6th available here. I will admit that this headline definitely caught my eye: Here’s how often you need to replace everything in your kitchen (including that sponge).

Tomorrow is the midway point in the Spring Break work week. If your Deac is at home, now is a great time to plan for a couple of extra splurges of TLC you might shower on them before they return: cook their favorite meal, bake cookies for them to bring back to campus and share with friends, take a long walk (or drive) together – whatever works for your family to create special memories.
