I am out of the office today, so this is a pre-post

As we are nearing the midpoint of the semester, some of our Deacs might be considering Summer Session. For some students, going to summer school gives them a chance to catch up on needed credits, or even get ahead of the game. This year we are offering both in-person and online classesThe Summer Session website has all undergraduate summer information. Registration for Summer Session will open in WIN on March 14 and will run through the beginning of Summer Session I until May 27.

One of the Summer Session options for Wake Forest students is the Intensive Summer Language Institute. This might be a great option for Deacs who want to tackle their foreign language requirement in one big chunk:

ISLI (Intensive Summer Language Institute) Program in Spanish During Summer Session I

Does your student have a heavy course load during the semester, or for any reason may need/want to fulfill their language requirement in Spanish in five weeks during the first summer session? Share with them this learning experience!

For those of you with younger students at home, I want to be sure you know about two great programs. The Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program is a life-changing experience that gives high school students the chance to try out potential careers, experience college life, make lifelong friends, and establish connections that will make an indelible impact on their future.

There are 18 week-long institutes to choose from, giving high school students the opportunity to dive into an area of interest and experience the “real world” this summer. Both day and overnight options are available. The 2022 Institutes are: Biosciences & Engineering, Business, Debate and Public Advocacy, Entrepreneurship, Film, Finance and Investing, Health and Exercise Science, Law, Leadership, Medicine, Neuroscience, Policy and Politics, Psychology, Sports Marketing, Sports Medicine, Technology, Writing for Life, and Virtual Reality.

There is also the Wake Forest Summer Exploration Program, for middle school students. This is a “get your hands dirty” kind of interactive, learning experience that allows students to explore their curiosities into the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Students will do activities and labs ranging from building rockets and programming lego robots to working in the Wake Forest campus garden and attempting to break out of a math-themed escape room. Both day and overnight options are available.

The 2022 Adventures for middle-schoolers are: Engineering and Robotics, NASA Astro Camp, Medical Mysteries, Sports and Science, STEM Exploration, and Sustainable Gardening: STEM from the Roots.

Both the Summer Immersion and Summer Exploration program could be wonderful options for younger kids still at home. If you have an interested student, please share this with them, and take the following actions: read more on our websites (SIP – High School or SEP – Middle School; join the Pre-College Programs mailing list; find the application here; and follow along on social media!
