I had already published the Daily Deac earlier in the day, but around 4 pm we got some late breaking news that I am glad to include:

President Wente announced that Annette L. Ranft has been appointed Dean of the School of Business, effective July 1, 2022:

“Dean Ranft will be the next dean of the School of Business, effective July 1.  She will come to Wake Forest from Auburn University, where she serves as dean and Wells Fargo Professor at the Harbert College of Business.

Dean Ranft will lead our business school with a commitment to collaboration and a focus on innovation. She has the experience to build on our business school’s tradition of excellence, as well as the vision to prepare our students for a lifetime of impact with integrity in the business world.”

We wish Dean Ranft a warm Wake Forest welcome and look forward to having her here in July!

[Now to my original post…]

There is a lot going on in the world, and sometimes between the news and what I see on social media, it can make me want to crawl under a rock. But today I want to share a story that warmed my heart.

As you may know, we are at the end of the ACC basketball season. Our men’s basketball team played a home game lastnight and blew out NC State 101-76. Simultaneously, our women’s team was at the ACC women’s tournament, which is happening in Greensboro (our women’s team won too, beating Virginia; they face GA Tech tonight at 8 pm).

Here was the dilemma: our small but mighty Spirit of the Old Gold and Black pep band could not be literally two places at once: we had the men’s game at the Joel (our last home game of the season, so the band was a must!) and the women’s game at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro. So in a show of remarkable sportsmanship, the Clemson Tigers pep band stepped in at the ACC Tournament and provided music for our team.

The Clemson Tigers pep band wore WF shirts, played our fight song, and gave our women’s team (and our fans) an incredible experience. Here’s a picture from the band’s social media:

The Clemson pep band wears WF shirts to provide music during the ACC Women's basketball tournament, while our pep band was at the Joel playing for our last men's home game.

If that doesn’t make you feel good, I don’t know what will.

Thank you to the Clemson pep band for their amazing support! What a classy, classy move. Go Deacs, and Go Tigers!
