Midweek Miscellany
Happy Wednesday, Deac families! Wanted to be sure you had seen the big news about the concert coming to Wake: Sir Paul McCartney will be at our very own Truist Field on Saturday, May 21st. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, February 25 at 10am local time at Ticketmaster.com, but students should have gotten an email today with a presale code to buy tickets starting at 10 am Thursday, February 24th. While I know this is after students will have moved home following the spring semester/Commencement, if you are a die hard Sir Paul fan, consider coming back to Winston for this if he isn’t touring in your home area.
We also have a website dedicated to the Inauguration of President Wente. Parents and families, the Inauguration Ceremony will be livestreamed on Friday, March 25, at 3 p.m. so that you can participate (virtually). For your Deacs, the big event for them will be the Inaugural Ball on Friday, March 25th at 10 pm in the LJVM Coliseum.
On Monday, the Office of Residence Life and Housing sent a reminder email to students about this week’s Housing Selection Information Sessions. Encourage your students to attend (especially if they are still looking for potential roommates or this is their first time selecting housing). Note: there will be an online Housing Selection Information Session for parents and families, currently scheduled for March 10 at 4 pm Eastern (the session will be recorded for those who cannot attend). Details will be shared in Family News and the Daily Deac once finalized.
For our P’25s and spring transfer families, Letters So Dear went out to your Deacs on Monday; read it here.
For P’22s with graduating seniors, they received a message today about a new online resource for them: “Seniors.wfu.edu is a newly-launched website that provides a singular page with relevant dates, links, and resources for you to successfully journey Out of the Forest. This website spotlights important dates and deadlines, offers advice for your transition to alumni status, and even gives helpful guidance for parents and families.”
Finally today, for those with Deacs studying abroad in Europe on a Wake Forest-sponsored program, our Global Programs and Studies sent them an email about how we are monitoring the situation with Ukraine and Russia. The message asks them not to travel to Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and related border areas, and reminds them they have been registered with WFU’s travel risk management service – WorldAware/crisis24. This service provides students with real-time travel alerts pertinent to their host country. The associated WorldCue mobile app also allows students to access information for any country to which they might travel and lets them utilize assistance services from their mobile device. A similar message went out to students who are on Affiliate programs (i.e., non-Wake Forest-sponsored programs) in Europe.
