A few emails about upcoming opportunities came to my inbox the other day and wanted to share them in case we have folks out in the Daily Deacdom who might be interested. The first is for families: the School of Business is hosting a short course called Analytics for Leaders – Building and Leading a Data Driven Organization. The course is described as follows:

“In this 3-day program (delivered virtually over six half-day sessions), we will provide participants with the knowledge to create a self-sustaining data-driven culture. Effective data-driven organizations demonstrate data literacy at all levels, use data to drive decisions, and most importantly have data-driven leadership characterized by:

An understanding of analytics tools and value

A familiarity with structured problem framing, and

A corporate-wide competency in data visualization and influencing

Executives who take this course will leave with the ability to properly define a business challenge, scope the data needed to solve the problem, and define the analytics roles and structure needed to support success.” They are having some informational webinars about the course; details here.

We are offering a second free student flu clinic on campus in 4th floor Sutton on November 9th; students can sign up here, and walk-ins will be accepted as long as supply lasts. As a reminder, the flu vaccine is required again this year. Students can also make an appointment to get a flu shot at the Student Health Service (SHS); the cost is $35 (SHS can provide a receipt for the student to send to insurance for reimbursement). Students can also get the vaccine at another provider off campus (e.g., CVS, Walgreens, etc.)

We have another event that we hope students will attend: on November 16th from 3:30-5 in Pugh Auditorium, we will have a “Wake Forest Data Dive that will explore our understanding of sense of belonging on our campus.  Using our own campus data, with possible reference to national data, three assessment experts, Phil Handwerk, Assistant Provost and Director of Institutional Research, Nicole Brocato, Director of the Wellbeing Assessment, and Nelson Brunsting, Director of Global Research and Assessment for Global Programs and Studies, will share what their research tells us about the current state of sense of belonging on campus….This session is designed for any faculty member, staff member, or student who wishes to learn more about belonging, its relationship to wellbeing, and how it can be strengthened. We encourage individuals to come with a peer or colleague with whom they can discuss how to apply what we learn.” So encourage your Deacs to attend if they are interested.

If you are a news fan, here is our most recent Wake Forest in the News. I especially commend to you the story WFU student creates recovery bra designed for breast cancer patients, which is really inspirational.

In Residence Life and Housing news, this message was sent to residents of Bostwick and Johnson Halls about their move to Luter for the spring semester.

One update re our Face to Face speaker series: students going to our Face to Face event with Madeleine Albright and Chuck Hagel will need to show their Deacon One Card for admission; the student-only event is November 9 at 5 pm in Wait Chapel. Any families who are attending the 7:30 pm program that evening at the LJVM coliseum will need to show proof of their COVID vaccine or a negative test.

It’s Friday – call your Deacs 🙂 and have a great weekend!
