Happy Homecoming!
It’s Friday, and a big Friday at Wake, as it is Homecoming Weekend for us. Your Deacs are seeing big tents up on campus to accommodate the Homecoming crowd; Party So Dear will be one of the main attractions. It will run from 4:30-7 pm tonight on Manchester Plaza and will feature music by The Commodores! Alumni, students, faculty, and staff are all invited. I hope your Deacs go, because Party So Dear is always a blast.
On Saturday morning is the Festival on the Quad from 9 am-noon: “The Quad will be filled with food, music, face painters, games, and many other fun surprises. Many departments and organizations will be bringing their “open house” to the Quad. Come play along, sing along, share stories, or just visit with The Unbroken Circle and other ‘Friends of Billy Hamilton,’ on the Mag Patio from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., October 30 as we honor the memory of Wake Forest’s ‘Dean of Bluegrass.’”
Saturday’s big Homecoming event is our football game against Duke. Kickoff is at 4 pm, and you can read up on our #13 ranked team and get a preview of the game here. This game is being called to be a Blackout – in other words, we want everyone to wear black. So keep that in mind if you are attending the game, be sure to have your best black shirt (bonus if it is a WF shirt!) ready for the game.
You know on Fridays I often remind you to call your Deacs. This Friday you have an extra reason, and that’s because Halloween is this Sunday. Halloween can have a reputation for being a big party kind of night, and it bears mentioning that you might want to remind your Deacs to have fun, but also be safe and responsible. There are tips on our University Police website about personal safety; there is also a link to information about pedestrian safety. If your Deacs don’t already know these tips, you could opt to share those websites. Sometimes having mom, dad, or a loved one reinforce these messages makes all the difference.
To our alumni families returning this weekend, I hope you all have a great Homecoming weekend! And for anyone going to the football game on Saturday, be sure to wear black! To get everyone in the Homecoming spirit, here is a picture of the Homecoming signs on Reynolda Hall, taken by one of my colleagues (who is also a dear friend).
