While normally Mondays are Meet A Deac days, we had some news over the weekend that takes precedence. Your student may have shared social media posts and/or information about a student-organized demonstration on campus and an online petition claiming that Wake Forest has taken actions that undermine the safety and security of our community. We shared a message with our students, faculty, and staff yesterday, and I wanted to make sure parents and families see it as well.

Though federal law significantly limits what can be shared about students’ records, there are a few key points in the message to stress:

Be assured that Wake Forest takes these matters seriously. Those involved in student conduct cases receive the University’s full and intensive attention.

We are working to provide care for the students who have been affected and need support. If your student needs support, there are many resources available.

Conduct cases can be incredibly complex (and are private). Though I am not part of the conduct process, I know there are well-established policies and procedures (the Code of Conduct and Title IX) that apply equally to all students.

As part of the aforementioned care work, administrators are scheduling meetings with groups of students to hear concerns and talk about how the student conduct and Title IX processes work.

Because of the privacy issues surrounding any conduct case, this is all the information I have, but I wanted to share what I know. There was a separate message last night about an unrelated incident, which you can read here.

I would also mention that we are currently fielding many emails. Please know I am passing those on to the right parties as I receive them so the feedback is heard, but cannot guarantee individual responses in times of high volume. Thank you for your understanding.
