This morning, Residence Life and Housing sent this message to juniors and seniors who had selected University housing. The reason for the message is Residence Life and Housing had heard from some juniors and seniors who might have chosen Deacon Station, but were concerned about signing a private lease that was for 12 months. The message was meant in part to clarify that it is not a 12 month lease, and is in fact paid to Wake Forest (and not Deacon Station).

Apartment style living can be part of a step-wise progression in having more and more real-world experiences (while still in the safety net of college), so living in Deacon Station or the Crowne apartments might be a great way for juniors and seniors to have more independence and increasing responsibility, which will equip them well for life after Wake. Plus, it feels very grown up to have an apartment with your best college friends (at least that was my experience!)

For our students who have planned to go abroad with what we refer to as Affiliate programs (i.e., programs run by other schools), they received this message yesterday, asking them to confirm their plans to study abroad this fall. I am so excited and hopeful for our students going abroad. It truly was the best semester of all of mine at Wake. I did the Dijon, France program, which was a homestay program with a French host family. Our faculty member took our Wake cohort on several big trips throughout France (in lieu of one big Fall Break as my counterparts in London and Venice had). Exploring your host country is an amazing experience. Just like the US has different regions, climates, and landscapes, so do other countries. So much to discover!

Some of you have commented of late that you like the pictures I’ve been including. For those who know me in real life, you know there’s nothing I love more than dogs. And for those of you with dogs (or cats) at home, you might find that once school starts in August, it’s the pets that your kids miss the most (don’t feel hurt: your Deacs can talk/text you, the dog or cat notsomuch).

Any time there is a dog on campus – whether that is the Counseling Center having Puppies on the Quad as a stress reliever, or just someone walking their dog – you can bet there is a student or group of students trying to pet them. So today, I bring you pictures of dogs featured in past blog posts. Let’s call them the Dogs of the Daily Deac 🙂 The big white one in the last pics (on the floor and sitting in the desk chair) – he’s mine!
