We’re on tap for another stellar day: high of 65. Tomorrow will be a bit of a bummer – high of 45 and rainy – but our temps are supposed to start edging up into the low 60s-70s this weekend. While there is some chance of rain over the weekend, it’s under 50%. I’ll take those odds.
Big news today is our governor is rolling back some of the restrictions in the state tomorrow. That’s great because it will allow the University to reevaluate and loosen policies in some areas.
However, it’s important to note that even with changes at the state level, students are still subject to Wake’s rules and guidelines; what that means in real terms is we may still keep some rules stricter than the state. And that is not to be a pain in the backside, it is because students living in a high-density setting like a college campus have different levels of risk than I do in my house of 3 people.
Today has been a busy day with a lot of meetings about what this will look like operationally. I expect to have more communication about that tomorrow and appreciate your patience until then.
It’s also important to remember that loosening restrictions doesn’t mean that all rules are off. Please help us remind your Deac that masks are still the key to mitigating the spread and getting us back to Yellow Operating Status.
Speaking of yellow – I am waiting to get the explosion of daffodils and other spring flowers on campus. I have a serious case of Spring Fever, so please indulge me as I share some more pics of what your Deacs are going to see in a few short weeks. These pics are from past years, but want to note that some of them were taken in Reynolda Gardens. If your Deac is looking for a nice walk, they can grab a friend and take the path from campus to the gardens once or twice a week for the next month and watch spring unfold.
We’ll close with this: my bite-sized piece of affirmation today comes from an article in Forbesby our remarkable faculty member Christian Miller, who teaches philosophy with a focus on ethics and character, and who is currently working on The Honesty Project. He wrote an article entitled “Honesty, WTF. Are People Who Curse A Lot Actually More Honest?” I don’t want to spoil it for you, so read it yourself if you are interested. While I have not met the vast majority of the Daily Deacdom, we do have some subscribers who are faculty and staff and know me in real life. Let’s just say they will probably attest that I am in fact honest 😛
