It’s the end of the week, and finals are looming right around the corner (they begin on Monday 12/7). One of the things that always made finals a little more bearable was the beauty and serenity of the Lovefeast. The Lovefeast is always held the night before final exams begin, and for a couple of hours, you could put aside studying for that chem test or finishing that English paper and simply enjoy music, decorations, a sense of community, and the spirit of the holidays.

The 2020 annual Christmas Lovefeast will be livestreamed on Sunday, December 6. The prelude begins at 5:45 p.m. EST with service to follow. We invite you, your family, and loved ones to join us from either the Lovefeast website or this Wake Forest Facebook event. I do encourage you to explore the Lovefeast website because there is a lot of terrific information there.

Normally when your Deacs are prepping for finals, they are here on campus and have the ability to set their work/study schedules, decide when/what they want to eat, and when/how long they want to sleep, etc. All of that is different of course because they are home right now. You can help your Deacs by giving them the space they need to focus on their work, by limiting interruptions or requests for their time to do household things, and by offering some of their favorite foods (even if they don’t join you at the table).

And most of us really want and need some affirmation in times of stress, so you might find a way to give your Deac a boost by expressing your confidence in them. That could be a text or a post-it note on your door with a simple message like “You got this!”, or by sharing a fun meme like the one below (which is one of my all-time favorites). However you can, help your student know you are proud of them, you have confidence in them, and your love is not dependent on their final grades. (I know you know that, and intellectually they know that too, but it never hurts to hear it!)

Bill Murray says you're awesome and he is totally right!

And want to amplify a great story I shared on our official Facebook page yesterday: our ROTC cadets learned their placements yesterday. Here’s how the ROTC Facebook page announced it:

Good afternoon from the No Fear Battalion! It has been an exciting day for MSIV (senior) Cadets as they’ve, just moments ago, determined what branch of the Army in which they’ll serve. All Cadets that qualified for Active Duty service earned either their number 1 or 2 choices. Help us in congratulating the senior class as they begin their Army journey!

Hope you will join me in thanking all our cadets for their service, and sending some prayers and positive thoughts that they stay safe as they take up their posts after graduation. We are proud of them all!

Have a great weekend, Daily Deacdom. Stay safe, wear your masks, avoid other people, wash your hands. You know the drill 🙂
