And….that’s a wrap (at least for on campus)
Today is the last day of the in-person portion of the semester. Students will be packing up and heading out by 5 pm when the residence halls close. It’s been a semester unlike any other I’ve seen in a 20+ year career, but we DID it. Your Deacs should feel a great deal of pride that they succeeded at a task so many other colleges struggled with this semester. Of course the semester is not over. It’s just a pause to relocate, and students will finish their coursework and finals remotely.
Now that they are coming home (or are already home, as it were), there will be more time for you to talk in person about the semester and things that matter to them. I was at a virtual conference last week with my parent and family engagement counterparts at other schools, and there was a presentation about a study someone had done about what students and their parents/family members talk about, and who initiates that discussion. For the longtime Daily Deac-ers, you know I am a nerdy data wonk, so of course I wanted to see what our Wake families are doing. Please consider taking this very brief informal poll. It asks you to look at common college topics and indicate whether you bring up that topic to your student, they bring it up to you, or it’s equal in who initiates discussing that topic. Like all surveys, they are stronger when more people respond, so I’m asking y’all as a favor to me 🙂 if you would please take this poll – should only take a minute or two tops. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Some seniors may be thinking about what’s next after graduation. The School of Business just sent me some reminders about programs they are offering. Sharing here in case they may be of interest to our P’21s:
Corporate Fellowship – The Corporate Fellowship is a fully funded Master of Science in Management experience for high-achieving students from historically underrepresented groups. In addition to full MSM tuition, Corporate Fellows are awarded a stipend to assist with living experiences while in the program. They also benefit from direct mentorship and a focus on personal and professional development with our Corporate Fellow Alumni. Fellowship eligibility details and the application are available here.
Connect with Current Students – Are your students eager to learn more about the School of Business graduate experience? They can connect with current students from the MS in Management, MS in Accountancy, and MS in Business Analytics programs. Check out videos from our current student ambassadors. We encourage any interested student to email our ambassadors with questions about the application process, coursework, career resources, and life in North Carolina.
Test Waivers – Qualified students will receive a GRE/GMAT test waiver when completing the online application for our MSM, MSA, or MSBA programs. Students are encouraged to reach out to Blake McClaren in the business school for more information.
Finally, registration for spring classes continues. Particularly for our ’24 students, want to remind them that there is typically a lot of movement in courses between now and the first week of classes at the end of January. So if there is a class your Deac wanted but did not get, they can join the wait list if that is an option, or they can visit the Registration Portal regularly in the coming days and weeks. Other students will continue make adjustments to their schedules, and your Deac might find the slot they want before the semester ends (and if not by then, they should absolutely keep checking as we get into January).
And a program note: we will blog tomorrow but then we will be dark until next Monday. I’ve got a great big turkey I have to start prepping for Thursday 🙂
