Happy Homecoming to all! This is a busy day on campus, so our Daily Deac today is passing along announcements from other offices.

Residence Life and Housing sent all resident students an email about upcoming Health and Safety Inspections; read it here. Students should read that email carefully and be sure they do not have any violations. One potential violation that students should be aware of is that if they are underage, and alcohol or drugs are seen in their room, that will be documented.

Several questions have come up lately about how to mail packages to students.

Be sure to put your student’s name on the package, not yours (so if you are ordering something for them from a company, make sure your student’s name is on the Deliver To field, not your name as the purchaser).

To mail using FedEx, UPS, and DHL, you have to use the word Unit instead of P O Box. (It is a long and complicated story about why they will not ship if you say Box; just trust me that it is true). So if your student’s campus PO Box number was 8820, you would address a FedEx, UPS, and DHL package like this:

[Your Student’s Name]
1834 Wake Forest Road
Unit 8820
Winston-Salem, NC 27106 USA

For US Mail, the zip code is 27109, and your student’s address would be:

[Your Student’s Name]
Box 8820
1834 Wake Forest Road
Winston-Salem, NC 27109

Note that for FedEx, UPS, and DHL, the zip code is 27106, not 27109. This is because 27109 is a zip code for US mail on the Wake Forest campus only. 27106 is the zip code for houses and businesses in this part of Winston-Salem near Wake’s campus, so FedEx, DHL etc. only recognize 27106.

Several of you in the Daily Deacdom have contacted me offline to see if I have updates on any of the security notices that have gone out this week. I do not. Whenever there is official news that goes to all of campus, I post it here in the blog. So if you don’t see it in the Daily Deac, it means I have no “new” news to tell you, but it doesn’t mean my colleagues working on those situations have stopped.

Happy Friday! Call your Deacs and tell them you love them! And to all our alumni families back for Homecoming, hope you have a great time with us!
