WSPD update on investigation into campus shooting

This is an announcement from the Winston-Salem Police Department on the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 20:

The investigation into the murder of Najee Ali Baker has remained active and ongoing by detectives with the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Authorities continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of that investigation.

At this time, authorities are not releasing any additional details regarding this active investigation. Subsequent media updates will be published by investigators with the Winston-Salem Police Department as information becomes available.

NOTE FROM WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY: A common question we have received is what kind of event this was. This was an event hosted by a Wake Forest University student organization. The organization hosting was Pi Omicron chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Wake Forest continues to work closely with the Winston-Salem Police Department, which is leading the ongoing investigation. We will continue to provide updates as they become available to us.
