The Winston-Salem Police Department is continuing it efforts to find and arrest a Winston-Salem man wanted in the fatal shooting of a Winston-Salem State University student at Wake Forest University on January 20.

According to the Wake Forest University Police Department, which has assisted in the investigation, Winston-Salem Police Department officers are actively working on the case and searching for Jakier Austin, the Winston-Salem man charged with murder and possession of a firearm on education property. Winston-Salem police already arrested a 16-year-old male, Malik Patience Smith, in connection with the incident.  Smith is charged with possession of a handgun by a minor, assault by pointing a gun, and possession of a firearm on educational property.

On January 24, the University shared news of the charges in messages to faculty, staff and students, as well as parents and others.  When another arrest is made, the University will announce that development in the case, too.
