Residence Life and Housing has sent the following messages to all students, and new students, respectively.

{TO ALL ON CAMPUS RESIDENTS}

Dear Residents,

Welcome to campus! With the high humidity we are experiencing, it is important that we all pay special attention to mold-related issues. The dew point (humidity) has been very high over the past few weeks and is forecasted to be high going forward.

During periods of high humidity, we ask that you keep your room windows closed at ALL TIMES. Additionally, please do NOT prop doors open even just to move. We realize this may be a convenience but it puts unnecessary stress on building systems and introduces that high humidity into the facility.

In efforts to prevent mold/mildew growth in your room, please consider the following steps:

  • Keep all windows and doors closed when heating and cooling units are operating.
    • Open windows and doors will cause condensation and may contribute to mold growth. Open doors can swell making them hard to open and close.
  • Do not place furniture or other items in front of heating and cooling units that can obstruct air flow.
  • Do not place potted plants or any other source of moisture on or around heating and cooling units.
  • Keep thermostats at 70 degrees, fans should be set on low speed.
  • Do not leave wet or damp clothes, towels or shoes in closets. Set them out on a drying rack until completely dry.
  • Please empty your room and bathroom trash on a regular basis, do not let it accumulate in your room.
  • Do not use foam mattress pads on your bed, they do not allow air circulation between the pad and our waterproof mattresses.

If you see mold, immediately call Facilities and Campus Services at 336-758-4255 to have the area inspected. Finally, please keep your room key with you at all times as staff is required to lock any unlocked doors after entering student rooms.

If you have any questions, please contact us at housing@wfu.edu.
