The following message was sent to the campus community on October 12 from the Provost’s office.

Dear Wake Forest faculty, staff and students:

We are delighted that many of you have already engaged in and contributed to our campus-wide Rethinking Community year—whether through contributing to a planning forum, proposing a ‘Rethinking’ event yourself, or attending one of the many programs that have already been hosted on our campus. This continued year-long effort is, we hope, a vital means of better understanding what it means to live in a more diverse, polarized, global, and virtual community.

Since the beginning of this fall semester, Rethinking Community-affiliated events have prompted and facilitated conversations around these four aforementioned themes. We invite you to be a part of Rethinking Community over this academic year and encourage you to visit rethinkingcommunity.wfu.edu often for an up to date events calendar, additional resources, and more information about the initiative. Over the coming month, you will begin to see the Rethinking Community banners and logos across campus, which will regularly feature imminent events.

One upcoming event I’d call your attention to in particular, which will involve multiple panels, breakout sessions, and other engagement opportunities, is a Rethinking Community Conference jointly organized by our Pro Humanitate Institute and Eudaimonia Institute taking place from Thursday, October 19 through Saturday, October 21. This conference will feature more than 30 visiting speakers and colleagues and is free and open to the public. The conference website features the complete schedule, list of speakers and registration details: rethinkconference.wfu.edu

Our wealth of related projects, speakers and panel discussions are made possible by you—our faculty, staff, and students. Many thanks as well to both our Rethinking Community Planning Committee and the Rethinking Community Student Committee.

My profound thanks for your continued individual and collective investment in our community. We look forward to many more conversations together.

Provost and Professor of Politics and International Affairs
