An enormous number of Wake Forest students have an abroad experience during their tenure at the University.  Last time I looked, it was over 60%.  Studying abroad can be a life-changing event and can considerably expand a student’s worldview.  I know it did mine, and I look back on my semester abroad (in the WFU program in Dijon, France) as the best of my eight semesters.

Families, there is a Study Abroad Fair coming up on Tuesday 9/24.  If your students are considering an abroad experience, please urge them to go to this fair!

As with so many other aspects of college life, the edge goes to the students who do their research, plan, prepare, and take advantage of all the resources available to them.  Study abroad is no different.  Even if your student is a first-year now, it is not too early to be taking a look at these programs and making sure of requirements, etc.

The Center for International Studies also has an excellent Getting Started page for students considering study abroad programs.  This might be a helpful link for parents and families too.

Details about the Study Abroad Fair are below.  If it is all within your family’s means and wishes, please encourage your students to consider an abroad experience.  It is transformational.

Study Abroad Fair – Tuesday, September 24 at 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

Benson University Center, Room 401

Study Abroad FairRepresentatives from affiliates and Wake Forest University study abroad programs will be on campus to share information and answer questions about their programs.

This year’s fair will also feature our Wheel Around the World prize wheel; students will have the opportunity to win prizes from many of our program providers. We also will be offering a tea tasting, recipe contest tasting and a chocolate tasting. We invite everyone to stop by and see what all the excitement is all about.
