It has been a very busy week in the Parent Programs office, which is reflected in this week’s lack of Daily Deacs.  We are wrapping up the final New Student Receptions for incoming first-year students and trying to prepare for their arrival in less than three weeks now. Wow.  The summer has sped by for us.

We are proud and unabashed fans of the Z Smith Reynolds Library.  We love the librarians and how helpful and accessible they are to students.  We love their crativity, as evidenced in Humans vs Zombies, the Wake the Library event during finals, and more.  We also love their constantly changing exhibitions and displays.

zsr aug 2013 020Right outside the Starbucks in the ZSR lobby are several glass display cases.  Right now there are some really interesting pieces of art there.  They are sort of modern and angular.  I was particularly drawn to a big picture of a lion’s head.  For those who are interested, I took a picture of the information about the artist; see below.

zsr artist zsr lionThis display of art might catch your student’s eye – as it did mine – and whether your student spends a second or a minute or 10 minutes looking at the drawings, it is a chance to take a breath and reflect.  On beauty, on design, on art, on whether it’s good or it’s bad in your humble opinion.  It stretches the mind.

I like to call it ZSArt.  And I am glad it’s there.
