Today is the Job and Internship Fair, sponsored by the Office of Career and Professional Development.  All types of organizations will be on-campus next today (Wednesday, September 14) in the Benson Center from noon to 4pm with representatives to talk to students about jobs and internships.  They are eager to provide overviews of their opportunities, answer student questions, and provide tips and advice on their application processes. Students will need to show their Wake Forest student ID to attend the event.

Deac families – urge your student to attend the Career Fair, no matter what year they are!  Every exposure to career and professional development activity will build their awareness and their skills about how to move along the path from college to career.

If you aren’t already aware of it, Andy Chan, our Vice President for Career Development, does an excellent blog about career and personal development, tips and advice for students, and the outlook on the career front and economy.  It’s called “Heart of the Matter” and is usually updated twice a week.  Andy offers very powerful insight and has considerable expertise.  There are things both students and their parents and families can glean from the blog – so I recommend you bookmark it.

In addition, to see the full range of what the Office of Personal and Career Development has to offer your students, visit the OPCD web site.  We go way beyond just the traditional ‘career services office’ – see the main buttons at the top center of the page for the various OPCD departments – and I hope your students will take full advantage of these tremendous resources!

And for those of you who will be coming to town for Family Weekend – the OPCD is offering a few options for families:

  • Friday 9/16 – 1-4 p.m. – Open House, Office of Personal and Career Development.  Meet the OPCD staff and tour their impressive new facility in room 220 Reynolda Hall.
  • Saturday 9/17 – 8:45-9:45 – Coffee and Careers.  Speak with the OPCD staff over breakfast and danish to learn more about career education, mentoring, leadership and professional development, and employer engagement.  Ground floor lobby, Benson Center.
  • Saturday 9/17 – 9:45-9:45 – Personal and Career Planning for First Year Students.  Andy Chan will review the strategy behind the unique personal and career development activities available for WFU students.  Pugh Auditorium, Benson Center.
