Good morning, parents!  Spring break is over, and hopefully your sons and daughters had a good one.  It was very quiet on campus without them.

There was no trace of any students on campus this morning when I arrived, about 7:45 am, which is not surprising given the fact that the vast majority of our students are not enthusiastic about 8:00 am classes.  If your students were someplace warm and sunny last week, this morning will be a bit of a rude awakening.  It’s only going to be about 50 today, windy, with rain coming in the afternoon and for much of tomorrow.  Warm and sunny would feel pretty good right about now.

In addition to the end of spring break, it’s officially the end of the ACC basketball season for us too.  Both the men’s and women’s teams fell in the ACC Tournament.  The men’s team struggled mightily this year; the women finished 15-17.  It wasn’t the season we hoped for, but there is one thing about Deacon fans – we always come back.  So I hope the teams and coaches rest well and recuperate and come ready for next season.

On the theme of looking ahead, this week begins the advising period for next semester’s classes, so your students will soon be hearing from their academic advisers about planning their schedules for Fall 2011.  If your student isn’t one to frequently check his/her email, please remind him/her to do it  because every student needs to have a face to face meeting with his/her adviser to be able to register for classes.
